Modern Heritage specializes in fine residential construction across New England and offers a new approach to traditional building. Andrew Brewin, Ian Mentasti and Steve Slade founded Modern Heritage in 2015, with many decades of fine home building and design partnership experience between them. The firm was founded on the notion that the client experience could be elevated through the balance of a strong commitment to craftsmanship and efficient, forward-thinking processes and technology. Our in-house staff is composed of highly skilled project managers, carpenters, fine woodworkers, drafters, and design support specialists. Together with our best-in-trade partners across the industry, we deliver creative, comfortable, valuable solutions to every project.

In addition to our ability to work on all styles and scopes of residential construction, framing through fine finishes, we are also working every day to build trust and lasting relationships with our clients. Modern Heritage was created to bring back the art that skilled builders brought to the great homes and estates of New England’s past, while operating as a forward-thinking, tech-savvy, 21st century firm.

Ian Mentasti

Design Development & Client Relations

Growing up in New England Ian has always been an active part of the creative culture blending residential design with contemporary lifestyles. For over 20 years he has relied on his extensive background in spatial planning—specializing in millwork and detailing—to offer design services and support to clients, architects, and designers. Ian’s award-winning work has been recognized in multiple publications including Architectural Digest, Trends, North Shore Magazine, Boston Magazine, New England Home, and Design New England. The co-founding of Modern Heritage is the culmination of Ian’s dedication to his discipline and belief in creating a truly professional experience for his clients.

Steven Slade

Director of Construction

Construction has always been a way of life for Steve; he started by mixing mortar for his father’s masonry business. The breadth of Steve’s 30 years of experience spans from building custom cabinets to supervising the remodel of a historic mansion for The Classic Group. As co-founder of Modern Heritage, Steve’s expertise in construction and carpentry pairs well with his hands-on, personable approach. When he is not coordinating with tradesmen, reviewing schedules with clients, or managing field crews, you will find Steve coping a difficult crown molding.

Andrew Brewin

Director of Operations

Andrew’s background in music set the foundation for his understanding of how small details come together. While at the Berklee College of Music, Andrew spent summers working as a finish carpenter with a custom home builder in Marblehead and built boats on the side. During this time he developed his love for detailed craftsmanship and understanding of fine carpentry. When Andrew opened his first company, his philosophy was to produce high-quality, handcrafted cabinetry and millwork with the finest materials. As a co-founder of Modern Heritage, Andrew brings that same passion, knowledge, and high standard of excellence.
